I’ll be straight with you: the Hotel Cádiz Bahía is one of the places I pick up guests from most often. In fact, it’s also one of the hotels where I end up explaining, on the way back to the airport, that the old town is only 20 minutes away.

More than once, I’ve dropped someone off after a full week, and surprisingly, they never made it to the Cathedral.

However, it’s not because the hotel isn’t good — it’s actually excellent. On the contrary, it’s so comfortable, right on the beach, with a private pool, great restaurants, and even a Beer Spa, that people simply don’t leave.

So, here’s my guide. I want you to enjoy the hotel and, at the same time, experience the city. And yes, both are absolutely possible.

Where Exactly Is Hotel Cádiz Bahía?

The Hotel Cádiz Bahía by Q Hotels sits right on the beachfront of Playa de la Victoria — the long, wide Atlantic beach that stretches along the southern side of the Cádiz peninsula. In fact, the address is Gta. Ana Orantes, 4, 11010 Cádiz.

This puts it about 3 km from the historic old town. Therefore, you can either enjoy a pleasant 35–40 minute walk along the seafront promenade or, alternatively, take a quick 5-minute taxi ride.

It’s clearly a beach hotel, not a city-centre hotel. On the one hand, if you want to wake up with the Atlantic outside your window and the sand ten seconds from your door, this is your place. On the other hand, if you prefer being surrounded by tapas bars, the Cathedral, and narrow baroque streets, then old town hotels like the SSenator Cádiz Spa Hotel or the Parador de Cádiz are better positioned.

In the end, neither choice is wrong. Instead, they simply offer different types of holidays.

The One Thing That Makes This Hotel Genuinely Unique: The Beer Spa

Every hotel in Cádiz has a spa. Most have pools. However, very few have a Beer Spa.

Yes, that’s exactly what it sounds like. You soak in a tub of warm beer — specifically a mix of mineral water, hops, barley, and natural beer extracts — while drinking a cold one from the tap next to you. At first, it sounds unusual. However, it’s actually very good for the skin and, more importantly, it’s one of the most enjoyable things you can do on a rainy Cádiz afternoon.

In addition, it’s a genuinely fun experience and something you won’t find at the Senator or the Parador. So, if you’re celebrating something — an anniversary, birthday, or simply an escape — book the Beer Spa. You’ll talk about it for years.

Book it directly on the hotel’s website at a discount: hotelcadizbahia.com/en/beer-spa.

First of all, Jerez is the closest airport, located about 43 km away. Therefore, a private transfer usually takes around 35 minutes.

From Seville Airport (SVQ) — 1 hour 15 minutes

On the other hand, Seville offers more international connections. As a result, many visitors arrive there instead, from Seville, the journey takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes. While it’s longer, it’s still a smooth drive via the AP-4.

From Málaga Airport (AGP) — 2 hours

Meanwhile, Málaga is a great option for long-haul flights. However, the transfer takes around 2 hours. Even so, the route is scenic, and many travelers find it worthwhile.

By train

Moreover, Cádiz train station is about 3.5 km from the hotel. Therefore, you can take a 5-minute taxi or, alternatively, walk for about 40 minutes, however, if you’re carrying luggage, a short taxi ride is much easier.

By car and parking

The hotel has on-site parking, subject to availability. Therefore, it’s best to book it in advance in addition, the beach location makes access much easier than in the old town. In other words, there are no narrow streets or confusing one-way routes.

The Beach: What You Need to Know

The hotel’s biggest advantage is its direct access to Playa de la Victoria. In fact, this is Cádiz’s longest beach. Moreover, it’s wide, clean, and well-equipped during summer.

The Atlantic water can feel cooler than the Mediterranean. However, in summer, that’s actually refreshing. In addition, the hotel offers direct access via stairs and lift. Therefore, getting to the beach is quick and easy, most importantly, the pool is for guests only. As a result, this becomes a major advantage during peak season.

If you want to compare the Victoria with La Caleta — the smaller, more characterful beach near the old town — read our Cádiz beaches guide: La Caleta vs Puerta de Tierra. They’re very different experiences.

Getting to the Old Town from Hotel Cádiz Bahía

This is the question I get the most: how do you reach the old town?

First, walking takes about 35–40 minutes. In fact, it’s a very pleasant route along the seafront. Alternatively, the bus takes around 10 minutes, finally, a taxi costs around 5–7€ and takes just 5 minutes. So, my recommendation is simple: walk there in the morning and, later, take a taxi back.

What’s Worth Seeing in the Old Town

Since you’re going to make the trip, here’s what’s worth it. This is my personal list — as someone who drives past these places every day and has watched thousands of tourists decide what to prioritise:

  • La Caleta beach — 30 min walk from the hotel or 8 min taxi. The most beautiful small beach in Cádiz, completely different vibe from the Victoria. Two castle ruins, calm water, spectacular at sunset
  • Torre Tavira & Camera Obscura — the city’s highest point and the live camera obscura that shows the whole city in real time. Read our guide to visiting without queuing first
  • Mercado Central — best on Saturday mornings. Fresh seafood, local produce, people watching. A 30-minute experience minimum
  • Cádiz Cathedral — the golden baroque dome you’ve seen in every photo of the city. Free entry to the crypt on certain days
  • Barrio de La Viña — the fishermen’s quarter, home to the best pescaíto frito in the city and birthplace of the Carnaval. No tourist traps, just local life

Where to Eat Near Hotel Cádiz Bahía

The hotel’s two restaurants are solid — El Mirador for sit-down dining with sea views, La Victoria Pool restaurant for something more casual. The breakfast buffet gets consistently good reviews.

But don’t eat at the hotel every night. The Victoria beach promenade has a good selection of chiringuitos and restaurants within a short walk. And if you make it to the old town, our guide to where to eat in Cádiz will steer you towards the real local spots and well away from the tourist traps.

One specific recommendation: if you go to the old town, don’t leave without eating pescaíto frito at a freiduría. It’s the dish Cádiz is most proud of and you won’t find it done better anywhere. Casa Manteca in the Barrio de La Viña is the classic.

Day Trips from Hotel Cádiz Bahía

The hotel’s location is perfect for relaxing. However, if you want to explore, there are excellent options nearby.

For example:

  • Jerez — 35 min
  • Vejer — 45 min
  • Bolonia — 1 hour
  • Tarifa — 1 hour
  • Seville — 1h15

Therefore, sharing a transfer can save both time and money.

Honest Tips for Hotel Cádiz Bahía

  • Book the pool-side room if you can
  • Book the spa online for the discount
  • The pool is guests-only — use it

The wind

Cádiz can get the Levante — a hot, dry easterly wind that makes the beach uncomfortable when it’s at full strength. If it’s blowing, the old town is more sheltered. Check the forecast and plan your beach vs city days accordingly. Our Cádiz in August guide covers this in detail.

Getting to the old town — plan it at least once

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again: please don’t spend your whole trip at the hotel. The old town is 35 minutes’ walk or 5€ by taxi and it’s one of the most extraordinary historic cities in Spain. Even one afternoon exploring the cathedral, the market and the tapas bars will make your whole trip richer.
